Welcome Back to Davidson Day and to the 2009-2010 School Year. Dear Parents, I hope this letter finds you enjoying a relaxing summer break. We have been hard at work trying to ensure that our upcoming school year is even more exciting and rewarding for your family and your child. Character and citizenship continue to be at the forefront of our school culture. We have embraced a four pillars model to illustrate school expectations for our students both at school and outside of the academic milieu. These pillars are: Citizenship, Respect, Honesty, and Diligence. In all things we do, we hope that you see these qualities brought to life throughout the year. It has been invigorating looking toward the coming year and examining the ways the new faculty will join the already fantastic staff, and the wealth of experience and talents they possess, to build a memorable and productive experience for your child. This staff is not only passionate about their subject matter and committed to delivering it in a thoughtful and engaging manner, but is devoted to the entire scholastic experience. Please plan on meeting the staff at the Family Orientation, August 13th. Early Childhood and Kindergarten will meet from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.; 1st through 12th grades will meet from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Parents and students are expected to attend orientation as important information will be discussed, sign-ups for activities and services will be available, schedules will be distributed, and books and supplies will be discussed. Please see these and other key dates coming up in August on the “Calendar” link on the Back to School page or through the Parent Portal. Also on the Back to School page are links to information essential for your family and your child’s preparation for the first days of school. Please look over the Checklist carefully paying particular attention to those documents that must be returned to school prior to the start of school, August 17th. All of these materials including additional forms and information (supply lists, dress code, calendar, as well as lunch, transportation, etc.) are available on line. We are pleased to announce that St. John Photography will be returning this year to photograph our children. Senior portraits will be taken on August 27th. All other students will have their pictures taken the week of September 21-24. Lower School and Middle School (grades TK-8) textbooks are included in the tuition and will be issued from the classroom. Upper School students must purchase their own books. This year, Upper School books are being ordered by the school to ensure that all books and the correct editions will be on-hand and available for students on the first day of school. All 9th – 12th grade students as well as Middle School students taking Upper School courses will be able to pick up their needed books from the school during orientation on August 13th. The school will bill the families for the cost of books. Supply lists for Eaglets through 12th Grade are available online. There will be nothing out of the ordinary on these lists and all items should be available at most stores. These are items such as pens, pencils, binders, paper, graphing calculators, etc. Please be sure that your student arrives to school on the first day with pen and paper, ready to hit the ground running! Thanks for entrusting us with your most precious possession, your child. Here’s to another great year!
